I am currently a Hoover Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. In August 2021, I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley.

My research interests combine political psychology and political economy to understand how people’s contexts–social, informational, economic, and otherwise–equip them with the resources they need to participate in politics.

My book, Company Towns: Industry Power and the Historical Foundations of Public Mistrust, is forthcoming at the University of Chicago Press. The book investigates how dominance of local politics by coal companies laid the groundwork for government underperformance and citizen mistrust that has outlasted the mining industry.

My teaching interests center on American politics, political behavior, and research design.
